Eternal Sunshine in 2023

 The days that preceded the last fight between Joel and Clementine were very hard on Joel. After she left his apartment he was devastated so he started to watch romance movies on Netflix. The next day, he went on instagram and saw that Clementine deleted all of the pictures of them together from her feed. She also changed her profile picture to just a picture of herself, as well as an “unlocked lock” emoji in her bio. He went on snapchat to ask her why she had made such rash changes already, but he didn’t get the chance, as she had also blocked him on snapchat. Making one last ditch effort to get in contact with Clementine, Joel tried to facetime her, but she clicked the decline button several times. In an effort to let go of Clementine, he decided to download Tinder and Hinge, in an attempt to find someone new after he was left heartbroken by Clementine. He made his profile, including much of his own artwork. He was hoping to find someone who was outgoing and who would take him out of his own comfort zone. As he was trying to move on, he saw on instagram that Clementine had also done the same. He saw a picture of her and a new guy on his feed, and felt sad that Clementine could move on so quickly too. He starts to go through all of the stuff he has in his house that reminded him of Clementine, including things they had bought together during their relationship. Realizing that he may have made a mistake in trying to move on, Joel went onto instagram and decided to post a picture of the two of them. The caption was a long paragraph, and it detailed all of his feelings about her. He didn’t care who saw it, but he hoped she would see that he wasn’t ready to just forget about her. Not only had he done this, but Clementine also did the same. Several days later, Joel receives a text from Clementine, the first one she had sent in a very long time. It included no words, but instead her geolocation: Montauk. Joel knew that this was where they had first met, and he dropped everything and got on the first train headed there. They meet on the train headed home, and decide to give their relationship another try.
